Boron project is my field report at the nuclear power plant. 
The gigantic factory generates invisible electricity. A generator turns from the turbine through arguable materials. Generations start from heartbeats. The turbine sound would be the same as recording million pulses and play them at once. A newborn's heart beats faster than at any other time in its life. The society is equalized but itemized. I think of the theory that human nature is fundamentally good by Mencius. Boron is the neutron moderator for nuclear chain-reaction. The united borons, encapsulated graphs of breathe and heartbeat at the birth, are the most virtuous moment. The nuclear and electrical sources have necessitated the virtue to preserve the utopia, the Earth.
Electricity is the irony of necessity and derivative. I look into electrical methodology and alternatives among philosophy, utility, and practice.

Gyeongju, Korea, my hometown, the capital of Silla (bc 57~935), is located in the east of Korea. There are the national treasures and 18 nuclear power plants. The half-life of uranium-235 is about 700 million years.

5/20/17~6/3/17 and 9/17/17~9/26/17, I visited a thermoelectric, wind, hydroelectric, and two Pressurized Water Nuclear Reactors including radioactive waste disposal center. I am looking into its feature, mechanism, and critical method instead of immeasurable mega-numbers of science. Basically, all machines are connected with pipes of gauge such as spin, pressure, oil. There is no solution for the carbon dioxide and global warming yet. The nuclear policy and threating missile news has changed from a symbol of disaster to a stratege of negotiation for the last decades. I am thinking about the nature and the next generations in front of turbine and under the boron sprinkler. 
I imagine when I stare up from the reactor vessel bottom to the boron sprinkler on the ceiling of nuclear reactor. I try to see the continuous lightning of neutronic fissions in the heavy water reactor. 

The power plant is a big picture and its industry and technology are at the front line of all fields. I am looking forward to using nuclear as right source. Generations start from heartbeats. 메트로폴리탄미술관에서 금동미륵보살을 접했다. 경주엔 보물과 원전이 있다. 거대한 공장에서 만드는 전기는 눈에 보이지 않는다. 정성껏 갈은 나무를 순식간에 사르고 물방울도 남김없다. 태양광, 수력, 풍력, 화력, 원자력 발전소와 방폐장에서 헤아릴 수 없는 숫자 대신 불, 물, 나무, 우라늄의 임계와 발전 메카니즘을 더 보았다. 기계마다 회전, 압력, 오일, 게이지, 파이프와 호스를 달고 있고, 뜨겁고 시끄러웠는데 막상 내가 선 이 최전방에는 소음도 먼지도 없다. 감정과 이권에 희석도 되지만 그 기술과 과정은 순수의 정곡이다. 이 또한 제자리를 찾아가는 과정이다. 발전기를 돌리는 터빈의 박동으로 작업한다. 수백만의 것을 한번에 틀면 날 소리다.

Boron and Resin

Boron project is two veins. One is science including boron and ion exchage resin in chemistry. The second is the theory that human being is fundamentally good by philosopher Mencius, Zou Kingdom, China in philosophy.

Boron is an essential plant nutrient, required primarily for maintaining the integrity of cell walls. It uses for various medicine including washing eyes and skin cosmetics. And also, Boron is used for reactivity control and in emergency shutdown system in the reactors. It can serve either function in the form of borosilicate control rods or as boric acid. In Advanced Pressured heavy water nuclear Reactors, boric acid is added to the reactor coolant when the plant is shut down for refueling. It is then slowly filtered out over many months as fissile material is used up and the fuel becomes less reactive. The operator of nuclear power plant controls the concentration as 14,000 ppm as the moderator for the stable fission.

Ion exchange resin is insoluble matrix, white or yellowish microbeads, and porous structure. It is based on crosslinked polystyrene and used to separate the plutonium and the uranium from the spent fuel products from a nuclear reactor, and to be able to use and dispose of the waste. The resin separates very similar chemical elements, such as zirconium for building reactors and hafnium for control rods. Ion exchange resin is crucial for making pure water, juice purification, and sugar converting, and pharmaceuticals.

I started to arrange the maternity heart rate curve above and fetal’s below. I captured the moment of medical originated human’s first heartbeat and breathe with the boron powder on each square shape of crystal clear art resin. Squares seem as the structure of society and each one is an itemized human being. The unit combines to construct hexagon is from the shape of nuclear control rods and fuel rods. Practically, boron controls nuclear fission in the nuclear reactor and I transform it as shields.
